Cabinet Refacing for Remodeling Your Kitchen

How to Do It Yourself and Save

You can save on an average anywhere between $2500.00 to $7000.00 by learning how to do the cabinet refacing yourself. To learn more about cabinet refacing read our online cabinet refacing guide.

Refacing your cabinetry is a process that involves the replacement of new doors and drawer fronts and resurfacing of your cabinet face frames and end panels to match.

With today's high prices you may not want to afford the cost of completely remodeling your kitchen. If your cabinets are in fairly good condition and you would like to save time and money, it may be wise to consider refacing your cabinets as an alternative solution. By having your cabinets refaced you can breathe new life into your tired, old and outdated kitchen.

Here's an example of a cabinet refacing project that I and my helper completed in July 2008. using the same concepts outlined in our cabinet refacing tutorial.

Black Walnut Cabinet Refacing

The cabinets above were refaced with natural clear stained black walnut. The owners had the tile work done by a local tile contractor and I figured the owners had saved about $24,000 in comparison to completely remodeling their kitchen.

(that's conservative pricing in the San Diego area)

I'm a professional with many projects and years of experience under my belt. Here's more about what I do for a living.

   How is the process done?

  1. Remove all of the existing doors & drawer fronts including moldings.
  2. Sand all face frames and end panels for laminating the new laminate or veneer.
  3. Modify existing cabinets or install new kitchen cabinets where needed.
  4. Install new drawers constructed with real dovetailed joints and Blum quality side mount roller glides.
  5. Install new doors and drawer fronts with Blum quality Euro hidden hinges.

Reface Your Kitchen Cabinets and Save...  In many cases you can get a better looking end result, your existing cabinets are sometimes better quality made with solid face frames than most of the newer cabinets available today. Also, new kitchen cabinets are bought in individual module units and installed one at a time, leaving seams in-between each of the cabinet boxes.949 white cabinet doors - San Diego Cabinet Refacers

When cabinets are resurfaced, the process often provides a cleaner custom look than newer cabinets. The results you can achieve with resurfacing your cabinets works much better than to refinish ugly older beat up kitchen cabinets.

Darker stained finished cabinets cannot be stained with a lighter color, properly finished newly veneered kitchen cabinetry can give you an astounding natural look that will last for many years.

Cabinet refacing is a skilled trade of which most installers have spent many years perfecting their skills to achieve top quality results.
